Poetry

Nancy Drew
Can’t be bought
Even though her perfume repels me
She pretends to be someone else
As I ask permission to photograph her
Between the suppliers with deep voices
In the city of Angeles of addiction
Where even sunlight refuses to touch the earth
And only neon grows the artificial grass
An entire city like a cheap hotel room
The walkers shiver in the heat
While the moon watches
Knowing its debt will be paid in time
When the shoreline slivers beneath the sand
It could have been worse
It’s nice to come
But even nicer go.

Under the golden bridge
We talk about things
That cannot be owned
Over and over again
I drop the rose
To tempt you
Hoping to bring me away
Hoping to no longer be walking
Alone in the moonlight
I dare not open my eyes
For fear you would be gone
And the rose
still on the ground

I do not know what to say
to say to whom
what
I can feel why
But not know how to share this feeling

Warm, rich, tasty eyes
Turn and twist
Like retracted headlights
Flying from their compartment
To protectively scan the horizon

There is safety in your sight
I wear your presence like armor
To slay dragons
That now seem harmless
Even pain is fun with you

I do not know what to say
to say to you
what
I cannot understand
When we are not one

When shadows
Dance
And the night blinds
Dragons always win
When we are not one

She handed me a Rose
For this ageless vision
For this journey wanted by all
But experienced by few
we were bravely starting over together
kissing the past
But massaging the future
The sky turns gray
Awaiting my death
Like buzzards over a newly dropped carcass
So I must hurry to the goodness
To the warm, fruitful sounds
To the good things that CAN happen to good people
If they wait or live long enough.
